Back To School Regatta - September 19, 2009
Lake
Hopatcong sailors know that northeasterly breezes are nothing like
there big water cousins. Strong early, fading to shifty and
fickle is the norm, and the 2009 BTS Regatta was no exception.
Through the cooperation of the sailors and the hard work by the race
committee, each fleet got their full schedule of races in, with the
usual wonderful smiles coming off the water. Congrats to all
of the competitors for a great day!! Many thanks to the large
committee of LHYC members for making this another great event!
The BTS is a regatta for all
levels of junior sailors, featuring a novice fleet, three age group
fleets, and a Laser Radial fleet. All sailing is done within
viewing of the LHYC docks, although we also offer launching for
coach and spectator boats, and have some availability for on our own
spectator fleet. Racing includes six races with a throw-out. We
also have a pizza lunch and a barbecue following racing. Trophies
are awarded 1-5 for each fleet, and there is a prize raffle for
those who do not win trophies. Each contestant receives a free
T-Shirt. LHYC is conveniently located 40 miles directly west of New
York City. The regatta typically attracts a wide range of sailors
from all over the Northeast, averaging 90-110 boats.
